At the panel discussion “Past and present democratic transitions:
factors for sustainable democratic development”,
Parliamentary Forum for Democracy, Vilnius, 10 March 2015
Dear Colleagues,
Allow me to quote you something from a very old Lithuanian folk tale:
“The Earth was praying to God: make me easier as I am overburdened by the multitude of people.
To the first of such prayer God delivered wars.
To the second such prayer God delivered pests.
At the third time God promised, but we don’t yet know what must happen in the future.”
This sounds like the Holy Bible, but also only for those who are able to listen.
Until now we were unable to read and understand the messages delivered by Nature in all the ways of its body language. Those are catastrophes both inside and on the surface of the earth and oceans, as they are both not separated anymore, like it was at the beginning of times.
This planet with no Little Prince is truly overburdened by people, or is it not?
Thus wars are permanently going on with increasing insanity of sophisticated and ever crueller means. Forget former definitions like First, Second, etc World Wars. That is one permanent global war waged by the evil for dominance over the world to be ruled by naked forces, the name of which is terror.
Among lethal deceases of the mankind we must consider refusal of love and of the very principle of truth, for the sake of unlimited totalitarian lie.
Disappearance of love is replaced, in turn, by growing global hatred. It only looks senseless and groundless, short to insanity, and the prevailing ideology for many humans is merely biology, games and senselessness.
Possibly, the only path to the harbour of hope is community. Those, inside community, humans are building ties and structure of mutual and communal assistance, cooperation, sympathy and empathy. This makes life bearable and short to joyous.
Seemingly, no need and sense to hate and kill should be exercised on the grounds of nature. Here is the beginning of human grounds.
Similarly, the community of nations is irreplaceable. Please, remember mutual assistance, sympathy and empathy. As for keeping order and non-tyrannical governance, democracy is needed. Thus there comes tyranny versus democracy; community versus deadly competition of unhappy singlers; cooperation versus dominance and obedience. That is your choice, you wise or stupid nations, says God. Better future and not mutual extermination is achievable only if you are a community of humans and that of states. As tyrannies and anti-democracies are not fit to build community(ties), it is clear on what democracies must concentrate their efforts. On true consolidation for the sake of survival. Because the earth is truly overburdened. That is the sense of our both organisations: Community of democracies and their parliamentary forum. Forum of Democracies being Forum for them needs definition in both aspects. Our Forum is for defining itself. Let it become a body for elaboration of criteria and monitoring their fulfilment.
It would be a mission and sense of an organisation of/for democracies and world democracy, maybe the last one, while previous structures to defend peace among nations and their cooperation lay in thrash. Therefore, the Forum must be strengthened, enlarged in the framework of democracy criteria, kept clearly separate form non-democracies, thus not undergoing the sad situation of the paralyzed SC.
